In April 2017 I published an article on LinkedIn (https://shortest.link/1PED) that drew attention to how important it was, at that time, for companies to think about innovation, and I cited a feat of Tesla: a market value greater than that of the giant Ford.

Well, we went through almost 5 years and, within this time, we have lived through very difficult times with the biggest pandemic in our history. We’ve seen millions of people succumb to the virus, an unprecedented humanitarian tragedy in a world that still has no idea about what the next steps will be.

In this scenario, the business model has completely changed: contracts were signed by electronic systems, schools implemented technologies for remote learning, medicine opened space for virtual consultations, several startups seek effective solutions for remote diagnosis, large retail chains saw the avalanche of e-commerce take the lead in the market.

It is important to point out that, at this time, Ford left the Brazilian market, while Tesla not only left the American giant behind, but also reached the historic mark of 1 trillion dollars in market value, surpassing the amount of 14 automakers that comes right behind in the rankings.

Returning to the Brazilian market, we have the ability to transform our core industry and generate knowledge and innovation. There’re a number of initiatives in Brazil, as I saw recently at the São José dos Campos Technological Park, that encourage the creation of startups and these initiatives will take us to the next step in terms of business.

We faced a war scenario during the Covid-19 pandemic, but the story goes that during the post-war period there is a lot of growth, as we had to learn to deal with the scarcity of resources, but now is the time to change the game and use all this apprenticeship to our advantage and, taking advantage of the arrival of 5G, satellite networks, to take the next step so that we are, for good, in the digital transformation era.
